Whole Wheat Bread Rounds

Healthy whole wheat bread rounds for healthy morning and snack. The taste is so rich and yummy, and the recipe is so easy to follow.

Note**: to make the dough rise faster, warm the milk and water 30 seconds or so, and use room temperature butter. Another trick I do, is I place the dough bowl covered in the microwave, and I leave the door open, so the light will stay on and give it more heat.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp butter, room temperature
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp yeast
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup milk, non fat or 2% milk
  • 3 tbsp water
For Garnish:

  • 2 tbsp Flax seeds, or any seeds you like
  • 2 tbsp wheat germs (optional)
  • egg wash (1 egg + 1 tbsp milk) or you can spray the round with water and then garnish you toppings.
Instructions:
  1. In a medium bowl. add the yeast, warm milk and water. Stir until the yeast has dissolved. Add in the butter, salt, honey, and the whole wheat flour and Mix. Add in the all-purpose flour, 1 tbsp at a time (you might need less than 1/4 cup all-purpose flour, or maybe 1 tbsp more). Knead the dough for a few minutes until soft.
  2. Cover the bowl using plastic wrap and let the dough rise, for about 45 minutes.
  3. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces. Roll out each piece into a ball. Place them on a parchment paper, cover the balls and let them rest for 5 minutes(it will be easier to shape them). Using hands shape the balls into rounds, prick them with a fork.
  4. Brush the bread rounds with egg wash or water, and sprinkle with some flax seeds and wheat germs. Place the bread rounds on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  5. Proof the bread rounds covered with kitchen towel for about 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 475°F.
  6. Prick the bread rounds with a fork again, and bake for about 6 to 9 minutes. Take the baking sheet out and spray or brush olive oil and then put it back in the oven for broil about 2 mins or until golden color from the top. Let the bread cool on a cooling rack and Enjoy!
